Désolé, je parle un petit français.

And so, our adventures here in France often begin with the phrase, “Désolé, je parle un petit français.” (Sorry, I only speak a little French.) Other favorite phrases right now for Jack & Cathy are:  “Je ne comprends pas.” (I don’t understand.) – “Répétez, s’il vous plaît.” (Repeat that, please.) – And of course, our favorite, “Parlez-vous l’anglais ?” (Do you speak English?) Despite our meager French language skills we have successfully set up a home here in Albertville, have gotten a phone and internet installed, opened a bank account, have gone on a couple of day outings, purchased train tickets to visit Hannah at the end of the month, and have been able to buy some delicious food and wines! I guess we are doing ok!

Actually, we are learning new things each day and our French vocabulary and understanding is growing. We feel so blessed to have such a great, Christian language school with patient and supportive teachers and interesting classmates who share our passion for missions and struggles with learning a new language. We know God has placed us here for good reason and we are thankful!

We are working on a brief newsletter which those of you who are on our emailing list will receive soon. (If you want to be added to our emailing list, just email us at carlostribe@hotmail.com and we will add you.) We will also ask any churches on our mailing list to post the newsletter for all to read. In the meantime, here are a few prayer requests:

  • Raymond’s studies at UW-River Falls & training with the swim team (go Falcons!)
  • Hannah’s studies at Black Forest Academy & adjustment to the challenges of a boarding school lifestyle
  • Jack & Cathy’s French studies & finding language partners who will help us practice our French
  • Safe travel as we visit Hannah September 25 – 28

May God bless all of you! Living in the Love of Jesus,

Jack & Cathy
