An update from the field regarding the election…
The final round Presidential election that was supposed to be held yesterday, Sunday Sept 19 did not happen.  It was postponed for several reasons.  There had been election related violence in the capital in the past week that claimed one life and left 50 others injured.  There were also fires on Thursday and Friday, one at a warehouse holding ballots and election equipment and the other at the headquarters of Guinea’s election security force.  They say both started due to electrical problems.
Some people in Siguiri were arrested yesterday who were in possession of military weapons.  The military is now patrolling Siguiri at night.  Needless to say, this is not a good sign.  Please pray that no other civilians anywhere else in the country are trying to access weapons of any kind.
Many are saying the postponement of the vote will be 2-3 weeks, but no official date has yet been declared for the election.  Please join us in praying for continued peace in Guinea, for fair and transparent elections to be held in the next 2-3 weeks and for the citizens of Guinea to respect and peacefully accept the results of the election.
