We are very pleased to write that we arrived safely in Bamako, Mali early this morning. We were delayed in Paris due to a severe snowstorm which shut down the airport for several hours. Initially we were told that we would not be able to leave until the next day, but then they started to plow runways and we were told we would be able to leave after all. After taking a bus to another part of the airport, and walking through slush and onto the plane, we became a little worried that we would never take off because there was some problem with luggage and we were going to need to leave without all the luggage being loaded or the flight would have to be cancelled. Many people on our flight were very unhappy about the luggage situation and several heated (emphasis on the heated) debates, complaints, and arguments took place. Luckily the flight attendants were able to quiet everyone down and after some de-icing of the plane, we finally took off. Beth Heiney met us at the airport – which was pretty nice seeing she had to get herself out of bed at 3:00am to do so. Only one of checked bags arrived – the others should arrive tonight and we will go to the airport to see.
So, we are in Bamako. It is good to be back in Africa. We walked around the neighborhood today and took in the sights and sounds and met a few people. I brought back so many memories for us! We will try to enter Guinea on Saturday. Though the air and sea borders to Guinea are open, the land borders remain closed. So, please pray that they will open before Saturday or they will let u in anyway!
Thanks so much to all of you for your prayers and support. you are a blessing to us!
