Greetings! You have all been such an amazing blessing to Jack & I over the past several years! Your generous financial and prayer support during the time we were given to serve the Maninka people was a tremendous blessing. Seeds were planted in Guinea and Christ’s love was shared with so many! Thank you for being part of that! Even though it is difficult to accept and understand why our time there was cut short, the following words from Isaiah are a comfort:

“I don’t think the way you think.
The way you work isn’t the way I work.”
God’s Decree
“For as the sky soars high above earth,
so the way I work surpasses the way you work,
and the way I think is beyond the way you think.
Just as rain and snow descend from the skies
and don’t go back until they’ve watered the earth,
Doing their work of making things grow and blossom,
producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry,
So will the words that come out of my mouth
not come back empty-handed.
They’ll do the work I sent them to do,
they’ll complete the assignment I gave them. – Isaiah 55:8-11

Since I, Cathy, am no longer with the OIM, and many of you have asked me where your support can now be directed, I want to strongly recommend the following ministries that have truly reflect Christ’s love and where the missionaries called to the work are amazing, committed servants who need your financial and prayer support. We pray that you strongly consider supporting one or both of the following ministries.

Our former Guinea missionary colleagues, Tim & Heidi Norton are now serving the Lord by ministering to the Navajo people of New Mexico through Lutheran Indian Ministries. Tim is also enrolled in the Cross-Cultural Ministry Center (CMC) program through Concordia University, Irvine, California, which leads to his ordination. Tim & Heidi have always been amazing examples to us of committed servants of Christ and we know the Lord will use them in a mighty way to reach people in New Mexico. Gifts to support their ministry can be directed to (indicate on your check’s memo line “Tim Norton Support”):

Trinity First School is a Lutheran School that has served Minneapolis for 150 years. Specializing in a ‘back to basics’ approach, Trinity First offers an education that equips children from preschool through the eighth grade. Trinity First is not a school just for Christians or for the academic ‘high achievers’. It is a school for all who desire to pursue excellence in learning. We work with children who have learning disabilities and those who excel. Trinity First is located in the Ventura Village neighborhood of Minneapolis, MN. It is the most diverse neighborhood in America with 100+ languages spoken and 3% of residents being foreign born. The neighborhood is home to the largest Somali population in America, the most native americans located in any urban neighborhood in America, 50% of Trinity First’s neighbors speak a language other than English in their homes, and 38% of their neighbors live below the poverty line. The school has an enrollment of almost 130 and they have a waiting list for new students. Many of the students cannot afford to attend the school without scholarship assistance. The staff is an amazingly committed group of ‘missionaries.’ Your gifts to this ministry have eternal impact on the lives of the school’s students and their families. Gifts can be sent to:
Trinity First School
1115 East 19th St
Minneapolis, MN 55404

I pray that you will consider redirecting the financial support that you have been so generously giving to my work in Guinea to one of these ministries. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at

Living in the love of Jesus,
Cathy Carlos
