A bit about us…
Jack was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Prior Lake, Minnesota. He attended Golden Valley Lutheran College and the University of North Texas where he received a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice. After working in the field of law enforcement for many years, Jack yielded to God’s call to enter full time ministry. He attended the Oswald Hoffmann School of Christian Outreach where he received a degree in evangelism and certification as a Director of Christian Outreach. In 1998, the Carlos Family moved to West Africa where they worked as evangelistic missionaries to Liberian refugees and various Muslim people groups.
After returning from Africa, Jack and his family have served St. Stephanus Lutheran Church in the Frogtown community of St. Paul where they worked to bring the love of Jesus to the people of the inner city.
Cathy grew up in Northwestern Wisconsin. She and Jack met while attending Golden Valley Lutheran College. Cathy worked in the field of market and survey research for many years prior to serving in Africa. After returning to the US, she has worked in the non-profit arena first as Development Director for a Christian battered women’s shelter and then most recently for a health care quality improvement organization where she trained health care staff at clinics throughout Minnesota about different cultures and immigrant populations.
Jack and Cathy were married in 1987 and have two great children – Raymond and Hannah. Raymond graduated from high school in 2008 and is attending Hennepin Technical College in the EMT program. Raymond loves sports, especially swimming and triathlons. He also loves camping, hiking, and all types of adventure.
Hannah is a junior at Kennedy High School. She plays the guitar, is on the track team, enjoys singing and participating in plays and musicals, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is excited about attending Black Forest Academy (BFA) in Kandern, Germany next year.
We also have two pets – our dog Lily and cat Peter.
